Dapur Babah Élite & Tao Bar

8

The term ‘Babah’ in Java is commonly used to address the culture that resulted from marriages between Chinese settlers and native Javanese women. In the ensuing years, the term gradually obtained a broader essence, and was used as well for the ‘pure’ Chinese blood whose lifestyle had been influenced by local Javanese culture and the Dutch colonial culture in Java. Dapur Babah Élite is set in a pair of refurbished 1940s shophouses, filled with beautiful period artworks that celebrate the unique cultural aspects of this era. Specialising in Babah Peranakan cuisine, the restaurant serves original recipes derived from the crosscultural marriages of Chinese settlers and native Javanese. The recipes and ingredients are the result of thorough research from around the island, creating a medley of classic Peranakan specialities.
