Reba Ngada Festival, Flores, January 15
This cultural festival, held by the residents of the Ngada Regency, is enlivened by a sweet potato eating party as well as traditional dances and songs. The annual ritual is an expression of gratitude from the citizens to God, nature, and their ancestors, as well as a form of appreciation for sweet potatoes, their primary livelihood. For Ngada residents, the root vegetables are considered noble, precious, and highly respected because their ancestors wandered through valleys, hills, and mountains with only sweet potatoes for currency.
